Jennifer Holliday is an American singer and actress born on October 19, 1960, in Houston, Texas. She is best known for her powerful and soulful voice, which gained her fame and acclaim in the music industry. Holliday made her Broadway debut in 1980 in the musical "Your Arms Too Short to Box with God" and gained widespread recognition for her role as Effie White in the original Broadway production of "Dreamgirls" in 1981. Her show-stopping performance of the song "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" earned her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
