He is known for his smooth and distinctive voice, which helped him establish a successful solo career in the 1960s and 1970s. Butler began his music career as a member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions before embarking on a solo career in 1958.
During his solo career, Butler released several hit singles, including "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Give You Up." He is also known for his songwriting abilities, having co-written hits like "He Will Break Your Heart" and "I'm Your Mechanical Man." Butler was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and continues to perform and record music to this day.
