Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He is best known for his smooth, emotive voice and hits such as "For Your Precious Love" and "Only the Strong Survive." Butler began his music career in the late 1950s as a founding member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions, alongside Curtis Mayfield. In 1960, he embarked on a successful solo career, releasing numerous chart-topping singles and albums.


Throughout his career, Butler has earned the nickname "The Ice Man" for his cool demeanor and soulful vocal delivery. He has received several accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016. Butler's contributions to the soul music genre have solidified his legacy as a prominent figure in the music industry.
