Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He is known for his smooth and soulful voice, which earned him the nickname "The Iceman." Butler was a key figure in the Chicago soul music scene in the 1960s, starting his career as a member of the vocal group The Impressions before embarking on a successful solo career.


Throughout his career, Jerry Butler released numerous hit singles, including "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Give You Up." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. Butler also served as a commissioner on the Cook County Board in Illinois for over 30 years while continuing to perform and record music.
