Jerry Butler, born on December 8, 1939, is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known for his smooth and distinctive voice, which earned him the nickname "The Iceman." Butler began his music career as a member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions in the late 1950s before embarking on a successful solo career in the 1960s. He released numerous hit songs, including "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Hey, Western Union Man."


In addition to his music career, Jerry Butler has also been involved in politics, serving as a commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, from 1985 to 2018. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to the music industry.
