Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He is also known as "The Iceman" for his smooth and soulful vocal delivery. Butler began his music career in the late 1950s as a founding member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions. He later embarked on a successful solo career, releasing hits such as "He Will Break Your Heart," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Give You Up."
In addition to his music career, Jerry Butler has also been involved in politics, serving as a commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, from 1985 to 2018. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award for his contributions to music.
