Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician. Born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi, Butler is best known for his smooth and distinctive voice, which has earned him the nickname "The Iceman." He began his music career as a founding member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions before embarking on a successful solo career in the 1960s. Butler's hits include "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Give You Up."


In addition to his music career, Jerry Butler has also ventured into politics and served as a Cook County Commissioner in Illinois for over 20 years. Throughout his career, Butler has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as a pioneering figure in soul music.
