Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician who was born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He is best known for his smooth, emotive voice and his contributions to the Chicago soul music scene in the 1960s. Butler rose to fame as a member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions before launching a successful solo career.
During his solo career, Butler released several hit singles, including "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Give You Up." He also collaborated with other artists such as Otis Redding and Curtis Mayfield. In addition to his music career, Butler has also been involved in politics, serving as a commissioner for Cook County, Illinois. Jerry Butler was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and continues to perform and record music to this day.
