Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician who rose to fame in the 1960s. He was born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. Butler began his music career as a founding member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions in the late 1950s. He later embarked on a successful solo career, releasing hits such as "For Your Precious Love," "He Will Break Your Heart," and "Only the Strong Survive."
Butler was known for his smooth and distinctive voice, which earned him the nickname "The Iceman." In addition to his music career, Butler also ventured into politics and served as a Commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, for over 30 years. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and continues to perform and record music to this day.
