Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician who was born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He is best known for his smooth and emotive voice, which earned him the nickname "The Iceman." Butler began his music career as a member of the R&B group The Impressions in the late 1950s before launching a successful solo career in the 1960s.


Throughout his career, Jerry Butler released numerous hit songs, including "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Hey, Western Union Man." He was also a successful songwriter, penning hits for other artists such as "He Will Break Your Heart" for The Shirelles. In addition to his music career, Butler has also been involved in politics, serving as a commissioner for the Cook County Board in Illinois. Jerry Butler's contributions to soul music have solidified his legacy as a prominent figure in the genre.
