Jerry Butler is an American soul singer and songwriter, born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He is also known as "The Iceman" for his smooth vocal style and cool demeanor. Butler began his music career in the late 1950s as a founding member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions. He later embarked on a successful solo career, releasing hits such as "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Gonna Give You Up."


In addition to his music career, Jerry Butler has also ventured into politics, serving as a commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, from 1985 to 2018. Throughout his career, Butler has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as a prominent figure in the soul music genre.
