Jerry Butler is an American soul singer, songwriter, and musician born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi. He is best known for his smooth vocals and hits such as "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Gonna Give You Up." Butler began his music career in the late 1950s as a member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions before embarking on a successful solo career in the 1960s.


Throughout his career, Butler has released numerous albums and singles, earning him the nickname "The Iceman" for his cool, sophisticated singing style. He is also known for his contributions to the Chicago soul sound and his influence on later generations of R&B and soul artists. In addition to his music career, Butler has been involved in activism and politics, serving as a commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, and as a member of the board of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.
