Butler first rose to fame as a member of the R&B vocal group The Impressions in the late 1950s, where he sang lead on many of their hits.
In the 1960s, Jerry Butler embarked on a successful solo career, releasing numerous hit songs including "For Your Precious Love," "Only the Strong Survive," and "Never Give You Up." He also made a significant impact on the development of soul music, influencing future generations of artists. Butler was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and continues to perform and record music to this day.
