Born on December 8, 1939, in Sunflower, Mississippi, Butler is best known for his smooth, emotive voice and hits such as "For Your Precious Love" and "Only the Strong Survive." He was a key figure in the Chicago soul scene and was one of the founding members of the R&B vocal group The Impressions.
In addition to his successful music career, Jerry Butler also served as a politician, becoming the Cook County Commissioner in Illinois in 1985. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019 for his contributions to the music industry. Butler continues to perform and record music, showcasing his enduring talent and influence in the world of soul music.
