He began his music career as a session guitarist, playing for artists like Elvis Presley and Waylon Jennings before launching his solo career in the 1960s. Reed was known for his distinctive fingerpicking guitar style and his humorous, storytelling lyrics. In addition to his music career, Reed also had a successful acting career, appearing in films like "Smokey and the Bandit" alongside Burt Reynolds. Reed was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017. He passed away in 2008 at the age of 71.
