Jim Campbell is an American artist known for his innovative work in light-based media, particularly LED installations and sculptures. He was born in 1956 in Chicago, Illinois and currently resides in San Francisco, California. Campbell studied electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later received a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
His artwork often explores the intersection of technology and perception, using low-resolution imagery and moving images to create mesmerizing and thought-provoking pieces. Campbell's work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. He has received several awards for his contributions to the field of new media art.
