Jim Weatherly was an American singer-songwriter born on March 17, 1943, in Pontotoc, Mississippi. He started his music career in the 1970s, gaining recognition for his songwriting skills and smooth tenor voice. Weatherly is best known for writing the song "Midnight Train to Georgia," which became a hit for Gladys Knight & the Pips in 1973 and won him a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song.
In addition to "Midnight Train to Georgia," Weatherly wrote several other successful songs, including "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" and "Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me." He also released his own music as a recording artist, with albums such as "Magnolias & Misfits" and "Songs I've Written." Jim Weatherly passed away on February 3, 2021, leaving behind a legacy of timeless music and memorable songwriting contributions to the industry.
