Jimmy McGriff was an American jazz organist and bandleader born on April 3, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was known for his distinctive style of playing the Hammond B-3 organ, which incorporated elements of blues, soul, and jazz. McGriff gained popularity in the 1960s with his soul-jazz recordings, including the hit albums "I've Got a Woman" and "The Worm."


Throughout his career, McGriff released over 60 albums and collaborated with other notable musicians such as Hank Crawford, Richard "Groove" Holmes, and Junior Parker. He was admired for his dynamic and energetic performances, often incorporating elements of funk and R&B into his music. Jimmy McGriff passed away on May 24, 2008, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering figure in the world of jazz organ music.
