Jimmy Ruffin was an American soul singer born on May 7, 1936, in Collinsville, Mississippi. He was best known for his hit single "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted," released in 1966, which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Ruffin's emotive and powerful vocals made him a prominent figure in the Motown music scene during the 1960s.
Prior to his solo success, Ruffin was a member of the gospel group The Dixie Nightingales. He later signed with Motown Records and released several albums, including "Jimmy Ruffin Sings Top Ten" and "Ruff 'n' Ready." Although he never achieved the same level of commercial success as some of his Motown labelmates, Ruffin's soulful voice and poignant lyrics left a lasting impact on the music industry. Jimmy Ruffin passed away on November 17, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 78.
