Jimmy Smith (1925-2005) was an influential American jazz musician known for his virtuosic skills on the Hammond organ. He was a pioneer in popularizing the use of the Hammond organ in jazz and is often credited with helping to popularize the instrument in the genre. Smith's innovative playing style, which blended elements of blues, bebop, and soul jazz, earned him widespread acclaim and contributed to the organ's acceptance as a legitimate jazz instrument.
