Jimmy Smith (1925-2005) was an influential American jazz musician known for his virtuosic skills on the Hammond B-3 organ. He was a pioneer in the development of the jazz organ style, blending elements of blues, bebop, and R&B in his playing. Smith's innovative use of the organ helped to popularize the instrument in jazz music during the 1950s and 1960s.


Throughout his career, Smith recorded over 40 albums as a bandleader and collaborated with many other prominent jazz musicians, including guitarist Wes Montgomery and saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. His albums such as "The Sermon!" and "Back at the Chicken Shack" are considered classics of the genre. Smith's distinctive sound and improvisational prowess have left a lasting impact on jazz music, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest jazz organists of all time.
