Jimmy Smith was an American jazz musician and considered one of the greatest jazz organists of all time. He was born on December 8, 1925, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, and passed away on February 8, 2005. Smith is known for popularizing the Hammond B-3 organ in jazz music and was a pioneer in the soul jazz genre. His innovative style blended bebop and blues with the unique sound of the Hammond organ, creating a distinctive and influential sound.


Smith began his music career in the 1950s and quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic playing and improvisational skills. He released over 50 albums as a bandleader and collaborated with many other prominent jazz musicians throughout his career. Smith's music continues to be celebrated for its creativity, technical mastery, and contribution to the development of jazz organ playing.
