Artist Bio:
Jimmy Smith (1925-2005) was an influential American jazz musician who was best known for his virtuosic skills on the Hammond B-3 organ. Born in Pennsylvania, Smith started playing piano at a young age before switching to the organ in his teenage years. He quickly rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s with his innovative style of playing that blended elements of blues, gospel, and bebop.

Smith recorded over 40 albums as a bandleader and collaborated with numerous other jazz luminaries, including guitarist Wes Montgomery and saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. He was credited with popularizing the use of the Hammond B-3 organ in jazz and helping to define the soul jazz subgenre. Smith's dynamic improvisational skills and distinctive sound continue to influence jazz musicians to this day.
