J.J. Barnes is an American soul singer who gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s. He was born on November 30, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. Barnes began his music career in the early 1960s and released his first single, "Baby Please Come Back Home," in 1960. He went on to record music for various record labels, including Ric-Tic and Groovesville Records.


Barnes is best known for his soulful voice and hits such as "Real Humdinger" and "Our Love (Is in the Pocket)." He continued to perform and record music throughout the 1970s, although he never achieved mainstream success. Despite this, Barnes remains a respected figure in the soul music genre, known for his powerful vocals and emotive performances.
