Joan Jett is an American rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known for her work as the frontwoman of the rock band Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. She was born Joan Marie Larkin on September 22, 1958, in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Jett's career in music began in the 1970s when she co-founded the all-female rock band The Runaways, which achieved significant popularity with songs like "Cherry Bomb."

After The Runaways disbanded in the late 1970s, Joan Jett went on to form Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, where she found even greater success. One of her most famous hits is "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1982.
