Artist Bio:
Joe Dowell was an American pop singer who was born on January 23, 1940, in Bloomington, Indiana, and passed away on February 4, 2016. He is best known for his hit song "Wooden Heart," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961. "Wooden Heart" was a cover of a German folk song popularized by Elvis Presley in the film "G.I. Blues." Dowell's version of the song sold over one million copies and earned him a gold record.

Despite the success of "Wooden Heart," Dowell never achieved the same level of commercial success with his other releases. He continued to perform and record music throughout his career but did not achieve the same level of chart success. Joe Dowell's legacy as a one-hit wonder is cemented by the enduring popularity of "Wooden Heart" and its place in pop music history.
