Joe Henderson was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and composer born on April 24, 1937, in Lima, Ohio. He is considered one of the most influential and innovative saxophonists in the history of jazz. Henderson began his professional career in the 1960s, playing with notable musicians such as Horace Silver, Kenny Dorham, and McCoy Tyner. He gained widespread recognition for his unique tone, technical prowess, and ability to blend different styles of jazz in his playing.


Henderson recorded over 30 albums as a bandleader and received numerous accolades throughout his career, including a Grammy Award in 1992 for his album "Lush Life: The Music of Billy Strayhorn." He was known for his versatility and ability to perform in a variety of jazz styles, from hard bop to post-bop to Latin jazz. Henderson's music continues to be celebrated and studied by jazz enthusiasts and musicians around the world.
