He began his music career in the 1950s, recording for various labels such as Back Beat Records and Argo Records. Hinton is best known for his 1964 hit song "Funny (How Time Slips Away)," which reached number 13 on the Billboard R&B chart.
Despite his talent and success as a singer, Joe Hinton did not achieve widespread fame and recognition during his lifetime. He continued to record music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but never reached the same level of success as he did with "Funny (How Time Slips Away)." Hinton passed away on August 13, 1968, in Washington, D.C.
