Joe Hinton was an American R&B and soul singer born on November 15, 1929, in Evansville, Indiana. He gained recognition for his smooth vocal style and emotional delivery, which earned him the nickname "The Back Porch Majority." Hinton began his music career in the 1950s, releasing singles with various record labels before signing with Back Beat Records in the 1960s.
In 1963, Hinton had his biggest hit with the song "Funny (How Time Slips Away)," which reached number 13 on the Billboard R&B chart. He continued to record and perform throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with other notable songs including "You Know It Ain't Right" and "I Want a Little Girl." Joe Hinton's soulful voice and heartfelt performances left a lasting impact on the R&B and soul music scenes, despite never achieving mainstream success on the level of some of his contemporaries. He passed away on August 13, 1968, at the age of 38.
