Joe Simon was an American comic book writer, artist, editor, and publisher. He is best known for co-creating the iconic superhero character Captain America with artist Jack Kirby in 1940. Simon and Kirby also collaborated on other popular characters like the Sandman and the Boy Commandos during the Golden Age of Comic Books. Simon served as the first editor of Timely Comics, which later evolved into Marvel Comics, and was instrumental in shaping the early days of the comic book industry.
In addition to his work with Jack Kirby, Joe Simon had a successful solo career in the comic book industry, creating characters like the Fighting American and the Fly. He also worked in advertising and animation, and later in his career, he focused on writing and illustrating his own graphic novels.
