Joe Simon was an American comic book artist, writer, editor, and publisher. He was born on October 11, 1913, in Rochester, New York, and passed away on December 14, 2011, in New York City. Simon is best known for co-creating the iconic superhero Captain America with artist Jack Kirby in 1940, which became one of the most popular and enduring characters in comic book history.
Aside from Captain America, Joe Simon worked on various other comic book characters and titles throughout his career, including creating the character of the Fighting American. Simon also served as the first editor of Timely Comics, which would later evolve into Marvel Comics. He received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the comic book industry, and his work continues to be celebrated by fans and creators alike.
