Joe Simon was an American comic book writer, artist, editor, and publisher. He was born on October 11, 1913, in Rochester, New York, and passed away on December 14, 2011, in New York City. He is best known for co-creating the iconic superhero character Captain America with artist Jack Kirby in 1940 for Timely Comics, which later became Marvel Comics. Simon also played a significant role in creating other popular comic book characters such as the Newsboy Legion, the Boy Commandos, and Fighting American.
In addition to his work in the comic book industry, Joe Simon also served as the first editor of the new superhero line at Harvey Comics in the 1950s. He later went on to found his own publishing company, Mainline Publications, in the 1950s. Throughout his career, Joe Simon made significant contributions to the comic book world and left a lasting impact on the industry.
