Joe Simon was an American comic book writer, artist, editor, and publisher. He was born on October 11, 1913, in Rochester, New York, and passed away on December 14, 2011, in New York City. Simon is best known for co-creating the iconic superhero character Captain America with Jack Kirby in 1940, which became one of the most popular and enduring characters in comic book history.
Throughout his career, Joe Simon worked for various comic book publishers, including Timely Comics (which later became Marvel Comics), DC Comics, and his own company, Mainline Publications. He also co-created other notable characters such as the Sandman and the Newsboy Legion. Simon was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1999 for his significant contributions to the comic book industry.
