Joe Simon was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer, born on September 2, 1913, in Simmesport, Louisiana. He was best known for his work in the rhythm and blues and soul music genres. Simon began his music career in the 1950s as a member of the vocal group The Golden West Singers before embarking on a successful solo career.


In the 1960s and 1970s, Joe Simon had numerous hits on the R&B and pop charts, including songs like "The Chokin' Kind" and "Drowning in the Sea of Love." He was known for his smooth and soulful voice, as well as his ability to blend elements of gospel, blues, and soul in his music. Simon's contributions to the music industry have earned him a place in the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame. He passed away on December 14, 2021, leaving behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to be celebrated by fans and music enthusiasts.
