Joe Simon was an American comic book writer, artist, editor, and publisher. He was born on October 11, 1913, in Rochester, New York, and passed away on December 14, 2011, in New York City. Simon is best known for co-creating the iconic superhero character Captain America with artist Jack Kirby in 1940. The character made its first appearance in Timely Comics (which later became Marvel Comics) in Captain America Comics #1.
In addition to Captain America, Joe Simon worked on various other comic book characters and titles during the Golden Age of Comics, including creating the character of the Fighting American with Jack Kirby in the 1950s. Simon also had a successful career as a writer and editor for several comic book publishers, contributing to the industry's growth and development during his lifetime.
