Joe Tex was an American singer and songwriter known for his contributions to the soul and R&B genres. He was born Joseph Arrington Jr. on August 8, 1933, in Rogers, Texas, and began his music career in the 1950s as a gospel singer. Tex achieved commercial success in the 1960s and 1970s with hit songs such as "Hold What You've Got," "Skinny Legs and All," and "I Gotcha."


Tex was known for his dynamic stage presence and energetic performances, as well as his unique vocal style that blended soulful singing with spoken word. He was also a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. Joe Tex was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016, recognizing his lasting impact on the music industry. He passed away on August 13, 1982, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering figure in soul music.
