Joe Tex, born Joseph Arrington Jr., was an American singer and songwriter in the genres of Southern soul, R&B, and funk. He was born on August 8, 1935, in Rogers, Texas, and passed away on August 13, 1982. Tex started his music career in the 1950s and gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Hold What You've Got," "Skinny Legs and All," and "I Gotcha." He was known for his energetic performances and unique vocal style that combined soulful singing with spoken-word segments.


Joe Tex was a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. He was also known for incorporating humor and social commentary into his music. Tex was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016 in recognition of his contributions to the music industry.
