Joe Tex, born Joseph Arrington Jr., was an American singer and musician known for his contributions to the soul and R&B genres. He was born on August 8, 1933, in Rogers, Texas, and began his music career in the 1950s as a gospel singer before transitioning to secular music. Tex achieved commercial success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits such as "Hold What You've Got," "Skinny Legs and All," and "I Gotcha," which reached the top of the R&B charts.


Known for his energetic live performances and charismatic stage presence, Joe Tex was also a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. He was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016. Joe Tex passed away on August 13, 1982, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of soul music.
