Joe Tex was an American musician who was born in 1933 and passed away in 1982. He was known for being a versatile artist, blending elements of soul, R&B, and gospel music in his songs. Tex began his music career in the 1950s as a gospel singer before transitioning to secular music in the 1960s. He gained popularity in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Hold What You've Got", "Skinny Legs and All", and "I Gotcha".


Tex was known for his energetic stage performances and his charismatic personality. He was also a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. Joe Tex was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, recognizing his contributions to the music industry during his career.
