Joe Tex, born Joseph Arrington Jr. in 1935, was an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter. He began his music career in the 1950s as a gospel singer before transitioning to secular music in the 1960s. Tex is known for his energetic stage performances and his distinctive vocal style that blended soul, gospel, and country influences. He scored several hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s, including "Hold What You've Got," "Skinny Legs and All," and "I Gotcha."


Tex was also a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. He received critical acclaim for his introspective and socially conscious lyrics, tackling themes such as love, heartbreak, and civil rights. Despite facing personal and professional challenges, Joe Tex left a lasting impact on the music industry and is remembered as a talented and influential figure in the R&B and soul genres. He passed away in 1982 at the age of 47.
