Born Joseph Arrington Jr. in 1935 in Texas, Tex began his music career in the 1950s and achieved commercial success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Hold What You've Got," "Skinny Legs and All," and "I Gotcha." He was known for his energetic performances and charismatic stage presence.
Tex was also a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. He was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016, recognizing his contributions to the genre. Tex's music continues to be influential and his songs have been covered by a wide range of artists across different genres. Joe Tex passed away in 1982, but his music remains popular with fans of soul and R&B music.
