Joe Tex, born Joseph Arrington Jr., was an American singer and musician known for his success in the 1960s and 1970s. He was born on August 8, 1935, in Rogers, Texas, and began his music career by singing in local gospel groups. Tex is best known for his hits such as "Hold What You've Got," "Skinny Legs and All," and "I Gotcha," which all reached the top of the R&B charts.
Tex was known for his dynamic stage presence and energetic performances, combining elements of soul, R&B, and funk in his music. He was also a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. Tex was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. He continued to perform and record music until his death on August 13, 1982, in Navasota, Texas.
