Joe Tex was an American singer and songwriter known for his blend of soul, R&B, and gospel music. He was born Joseph Arrington Jr. on August 8, 1935, in Rogers, Texas. Tex began his music career in the 1950s and achieved commercial success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "Hold What You've Got," "Skinny Legs and All," and "I Gotcha."


Tex was known for his energetic stage presence and his unique vocal style, which incorporated spoken-word elements and emotional intensity. He was also a prolific songwriter, penning many of his own hits as well as songs for other artists. Joe Tex was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2015. He passed away on August 13, 1982, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering figure in the soul and R&B music scenes.
