John Dawson Read (1851-1924) was an American artist known for his landscape and marine paintings. He was born in New York City and studied at the National Academy of Design under the renowned artist Lemuel Wilmarth. Read later traveled to Europe to further his artistic training, spending time in Paris and Italy.
Read's work often featured seascapes, coastal scenes, and landscapes, capturing the natural beauty and light of these settings with a high level of detail and realism. His paintings were well-received during his lifetime and he exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Paris Salon and the National Academy of Design.
