Artist Bio:
Johnnie Ray was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist who rose to fame in the early 1950s. Born on January 10, 1927, in Oregon, Ray is considered one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. He is best known for hits such as "Cry" and "Just Walkin' in the Rain," which both reached the top of the Billboard charts. Ray's emotional vocal delivery and energetic stage performances earned him the nickname "The Prince of Wails." He was one of the first artists to openly embrace his sexuality, which was considered controversial at the time.

Despite his success in the music industry, Johnnie Ray struggled with personal issues, including alcoholism and financial troubles. He continued to perform and record music throughout his career, but his popularity began to decline in the late 1950s. Ray passed away on February 24, 1990, leaving behind a legacy as a groundbreaking artist who helped pave the way for future rock and roll musicians.
