Johnnie Taylor was an American singer who was born on May 5, 1934, in Crawfordsville, Arkansas. He was known for his versatile musical talents, ranging from gospel to blues and soul music. Taylor began his music career in the 1950s as a member of the gospel group Soul Stirrers, before transitioning to a successful solo career in the 1960s.
Taylor signed with Stax Records in the 1960s and released several hits, including "Who's Making Love" and "Jody's Got Your Girl and Gone." He later moved to Columbia Records and continued to produce popular songs like "Disco Lady." Taylor was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2016. He passed away on May 31, 2000, leaving behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to be celebrated by fans around the world.
