Johnnie Taylor was an American singer best known for his work in the genres of soul, blues, and gospel music. He was born on May 5, 1934, in Crawfordsville, Arkansas, and began his singing career in the 1950s as a member of the gospel group Highway QCs. In the 1960s, he transitioned to a solo career and signed with Stax Records, where he released several successful albums and singles.


Taylor's most famous songs include "Who's Making Love," which reached the top of the Billboard R&B chart in 1968, and "Disco Lady," which became his first and only number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1976. Throughout his career, Taylor was known for his powerful, soulful voice and his ability to blend elements of soul, blues, and gospel into his music. He continued to perform and record music until his death on May 31, 2000, leaving behind a legacy as a significant figure in the world of soul music.
