Johnny and the Hurricanes were an American instrumental rock band formed in Toledo, Ohio in 1958. The band's original lineup included saxophonist Johnny Paris, guitarist Dave Yorko, pianist Paul Tesluk, bassist Lionel "Butch" Mattice, and drummer Tony Kaye. They are best known for their 1960 hit single "Red River Rock," which reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The band continued to release instrumental rock music throughout the 1960s, with hits such as "Beatnik Fly" and "Reveille Rock." Johnny and the Hurricanes were known for their high-energy performances and unique sound, combining rock and roll with R&B and pop influences. They were popular in both the United States and the United Kingdom, where they had several chart successes. Johnny and the Hurricanes disbanded in the 1970s, but their music continues to be celebrated by fans of instrumental rock.
