Artist Bio:
Johnny and the Hurricanes were an American instrumental rock and roll band formed in Toledo, Ohio in 1958. The band's original members were saxophonist Johnny Paris, guitarist Dave Yorko, pianist Paul Tesluk, bassist Lionel "Butch" Mattice, and drummer Tony Kaye. They are best known for their hit singles "Red River Rock" and "Beatnik Fly," both of which reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1959.

Johnny and the Hurricanes gained popularity for their energetic live performances and their unique blend of rock and roll with a prominent saxophone sound. They continued to record and tour throughout the 1960s, but their chart success waned. Despite this, they maintained a dedicated fan base and continued to perform live until the late 2000s. Johnny Paris, the band's leader, passed away in 2006, but Johnny and the Hurricanes left a lasting legacy as one of the pioneering instrumental rock bands of the late 1950s.
