He began his career as a child actor, gaining fame for his role as Mark McCain in the popular TV series "The Rifleman," which aired from 1958 to 1963. Crawford's performance on the show earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1959.
